My Latest Poem - Embrace
EMBRACE © Cheylagn Ni’hIcidhe 2009
I still remember loving you
Autumnal leaves falling
Upon ashen limbs
My arms as spindles
Twig like stretching
To shroud the subtle
Samplings of your taut trunk
You twined skywards
Ever reaching
Brittle bones disintegrating
At your lucid swaying touch
Broken branches
Crackling leaves under foot
I am rooted in place
Without caressing nourishment
To grow
To resonate
To nurture and develop
My arms entangle in coarse bracken
Dragging my fragile
Stick insect self backwards
Towards hungry dry earth
I feel the toxic vine
Strip me into naïve nakedness
Your torso touches clouds
As I fall limbless
Into peat and curses
Filling my nostrils
Its vapours stealthily snake
Into my innermost blossoms
Strangling their foetal form
And I can remember
The perfect persimmon taste
Of Persephone upon my rosebud lips
Now ever woven
Into a poignant web of deceit
As nightshade, angel’s death
Filters into my veins
So poisonous, yet delicate
I crumble into a tangle
Of broken green
And forever slumber
In tumultuous reds and browns
